This course examines how ancient civilizations have been and continue to be used in the modern world to provide support for ideological movements. It focuses on how groups such as nationalists, fascists, colonialists, and the contemporary alt‑right have appropriated the histories of the Ancient Near East, Greece, and Rome, probing the epistemic strategies used in such appropriation.
